"Daddy, Mom, can I sleep with you, I am scared!

The other day I picked our 5 year old up from school and she just was not looking like herself.  She seemed jittery and sheepish, two qualities that this child does not possess.  Time she sat down in the car I asked her a MILLION questions.  CIA and FBI have nothing on an inquisitive mom.  She kept telling me everything was fine and nothing happened.  Of course my mind went to the worst and I was already plotting my alibi if I needed to get all "Kill Bill" on someone.  THANKFULLY, no alibi was needed!

When it was bed time, Aunna runs to Larry and I and says, "Dad, mom, can I sleep in your bed?"  Instantly Larry ask why.  She tells us she is afraid.  "Afraid of what? Ask her dad."  Then she finally tells us.........  "I am afraid of Jumanji!"  Jumanji, the 1995 movie starring Robin Williams.  Let me give you the back story.   Last Saturday while I was having mommy time, Larry was home with the kids.  He called me and asked if Aunna could watch Jumanji since it was on TV and was one if his favorite movies.  I reminded him that he is an adult, Aunna is a 5 year old kid with a vivid imagination.  Well, low and behold he must have let her watch some of it anyway.

Now I am a strong believer that as parents, we MUST guard our kids eyes and ears.  I know how a spirit of fear can quickly enter a child and bring torment.  And low and behold that is what had happened.  She continued to tell us that she was afraid that wild animals will come bombarding our home like in the movie.  She was seriously afraid and I could see the fear all on her.  Part of me was majorly pissed off with my husband for allowing this and I wanted to lay him out.  But I knew that we, as husband and wife, mommy and daddy, had to deal with this fear issues pronto!

So what is the take away?  Well moms, we must act as gate keepers to what our children see and hear.  You may think that a show or song is just entertainment, but young, innocent minds do not understand that.  They take things for face value.  Fear paralyzes and I saw it plain as day when Aunna was afraid to go into the very bedroom she adores.

Now you may be wondering if she went to sleep.  Yes she did, and since daddy was the one who allowed her to watch the movie, daddy was the one that slept on her bedroom floor two nights in a row to bring her comfort!
